and do for the visitor. Below you will find a number of activities and
visitor attractions in Lewis and Harris which may be of interest to you.

Arnol
Blackhouse is an Historic Scotland run traditional, fully furnished, Lewis
thatched house which provides a unique insight into island life.
There is also an attached
barn, byre and stackyard. Beside the Black House, a furnished 1920s crofthouse
can also be seen. Visitor centre with interpretative displays. The property
is open all year except for Sundays.
The visitor centre
is contained on one level, where there is a shop, exhibition area and
interactive model. Also on site is a 1920s crofthouse open for viewing.
Most of the site is
accessible to visitors using wheelchairs however the door leading to the
rear is too narrow to fit a wheelchair. For more information log onto

An Lanntair is a recently
opened Arts Centre in Stornoway. With an auditorium, art gallery, restaurant
and bar area, this building is located right in the town centre and promises
to be the main attraction in the island with regular events taking place
giving all a taste of the cultural and arts for which the hebrides are
famous, being the Gaelic heartland of the UK. Make sure of putting An
Lanntair high on your list of must see attractions on your visit. You'll
not be disappointed. For more information and events bookings visit www.lanntair.com

If
you are able, you should add Bosta Iron Age House into your itinerary.
This building is a replica of one of the original houses inhabited during
the Iron Age. The archaeological site of the ancient village is located
nearby and overlooks the beautiful beach at Bosta, a popular destination
for locals and visitors alike during the summer. The house is open to
visitors Monday to Friday from 12-4 from May through to early September
and your guide will be pleased to answer any questions as well as giving
a comprehensive history of the village. Welcome to the past heritage of
our islands.
Harris
The beach at Scarista
in Harris is one of the most beautiful you can find in the UK and a
very popular destination for tourists. The beach boasts long white sandy
beaches and beautiful sparkling waters. Due to the islands being so
close to the Gulf Stream, the warmth of the water can be surprising.
This is one place definately worth a visit.
While in Harris
there are some visitor attractions worth stopping at. One of these is
the Church at Rodel which dates back to c1300. The Seallam!
Genealogy Centre in Northton is world renowned for it's collection
of information on family history and ex-pats all over the world contact
them for information on their ancestry. Exhibitions are ever changing
and the proprietors also provide evenings of talks and slide shows during
the summer months.
These are only a taste
of what is available to you in the islands. We hope that these have whetted
your appetite and should you need transport we will be pleased to assist
you.
